16-year-old Ajax youth player Noah Gesser died in a car accident on Friday evening, Dutch football club announced.
In a statement released on Saturday, Ajax said Geser and his brother were killed in the crash.
“This afternoon, at the exhibition matches of Ajax 1 and Young Ajax, this terrible news will be given special attention,” the club Said.
“There will be a minute of silence before the start of the match and Ajax players will wear armlets to mourn Geser’s passing. Apart from this, the flag will remain at half-mast at Tocomast Sports Complex.
“Ajax is deeply affected by this tragic incident. The club seeks the strength of Gesser’s loved ones to deal with this irreparable loss in times to come.”
Geser was born on 27 February 2005 in IJsselstein, Netherlands.
Geser, a striker, joined Ajax from Alphonse Boys, after stints at Almere City and the VVIJ. He has been playing for the Dutch giants since 2018.
This season he was preparing to play for Ajax’s Under-17 team.
Spanish giants Real Madrid expressed their condolences on Twitter.
“Real Madrid CF, its president and its board of directors deeply mourn the passing of Ajax academy player Noah Gesser,” it added. Said.
“Real Madrid would like to express their condolences to his family and loved ones, his teammates and his club.”
Former Bayern Munich and Germany defender Jerome Boateng also paid tribute to Gesser on Twitter.
“Sad to hear,” Boateng Said. “Rest in peace Noah Geser.”
