A portion of the mine was filled with electric poles after 6 pm Saturday time when 29 miners were working at the mine in Hutubi County, Xinjiang, the report said.
In a separate report, state media outlet Global Times said that 12 of the trapped miners are located in the mine as of Sunday and are expected to be rescued, while another nine are not workers.
Chinese mines are the deadliest in the world.
Ten gold miners were confirmed dead in January following an explosion at a mine in China’s coastal Shandong province.
In December last year, 23 people died after being trapped in a mine in the southwestern city of Chongqing. Three months ago, 16 people died in a different coal mine in the same area.
State media said on Sunday that rescue efforts were on at the Xinjiang mine.
