According to the Indian Ministry of Health, India reported 4,454 new Kovid-19 deaths on Monday, bringing the death toll in the country to 303,720.
According to data from Johns Hopkins University, India is the third country to report more than 300,000 deaths from the virus after Brazil and the United States.
The Ministry of Health also reported 222,315 new coronovirus infections, marking the fourth consecutive day that the number of reported cases in the country has declined.
However, Monday’s death toll is the highest daily death recorded since May 19.
According to the Indian Ministry of Health, a total of 26,752,447 cases of coronavirus have been reported in India on Monday. Since January 16, at least 196,051,962 doses of the Kovid-19 vaccine have been given.
In Delhi’s capital region, the supply of covaxine vaccine would have already run out, Atishi Marlena, a senior member of the local government, tweeted on Sunday.
“It is a serious concern that Covaxin will not be available for a second dose of vaccine in the 45+ category after Monday!” Marlena said.
According to the Delhi Government Vaccination Bulletin, 1,530 doses of Kovaxin vaccine were available in the area on Sunday evening.
The Delhi government on Sunday stopped vaccinations for people between the ages of 18 and 44 due to lack of vaccines.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Sunday, “There is a shortage of vaccines all over the country … If everyone gets the vaccine then maybe we can save ourselves from the third wave.”
The Health Ministry said that 40,650 doses of the vaccine would be made available to the states in the next three days.
