“It’s sensitive to me, this record, just how much I love it,” Adele said. “I always say that 21 is no longer mine. Everyone else took it to heart. I’m not going to let it go. It’s my album. I want to share myself with everyone, but I don’t’ Don’t think I’ll ever let it go.”
She talked about going through the divorce, saying that self-care and the work that went into creating her new music has helped her deal with anxiety in recent years.
“It was a lot of sound baths. It was a lot of meditation. It was a lot of therapy. And a lot of time I spent on myself,” Adele said of her efforts, adding that time at the gym was also important. “It became my time. I realized that when I was working out, I didn’t care. It was never about losing weight. I wondered, if I could make my body physically stronger , and I can feel and see it, so maybe one day I can make my emotions and my mind stronger physically.”
Adele filed for divorce from Simon Konecki in 2019. She and Konecki, who live across the street from her in Los Angeles, share a nine-year-old son, Angelo.
On the new album, she said she’s not quite sure she’d call it a divorce album.
“He’s not one of my ancestors. He’s the father of my child,” he said of Konecki.
“I was just going through the motions and I wasn’t happy,” Adele said of her marriage. “Neither of us did anything wrong. We didn’t hurt each other or anything like that. It was just: I want my son to really love me, and to be loved. It really is.” It’s important to me.”
“I’ve been on my journey to find my true happiness ever since,” she said.
Adele touched on some of the happiness she found with her new boyfriend, sports agent Rich Paul. He said that the two were friends for some time before they started dating.
“He was always there, I just didn’t see him,” she told Vogue during the Aperol spritz, revealing that the two met at a party a few years ago. “I was a little drunk. I said: Do you want to sign me? I’m an athlete now. That’s a lot of fun.” And also: “He was dancing. Everyone else was just sitting there. He was just dancing.”
