As Lopez and Ben Affleck have been out and about together lately and making headlines, let’s take a look back at the two’s history.
Lopez and Affleck met on the set of the rom-com “Gigly”, where they played criminals trapped at work together, and the pair strike up a real-life friendship.
Speculation arose that Ben and Jen might be more than just friends after they took out a full page advertisement in trade publications to promote their film and praise their performances.
The ad read, “Working with you has been nothing but an honor and a pleasure.” “I only wish I was lucky in all your films.” Signed: “With love, respect and gratitude, Ben Affleck.”
Photos of the paparazzi began to circulate as smooching of Lopez and Affleck.
The couple gets engaged after Affleck questions Harry Winston with a stunning, custom 6.1-carat pink diamond ring.
He also appears as Lopez’s love interest in the music video for her single “Jenny from the Block”, the story of which is based on the paparazzi’s treatment of their relationship.
In the video, Affleck – literally – kisses in a scene of the couple on a yacht in their famous booty.
Lopez and Affleck made a stunning pairing on the red carpet at the 75th Annual Academy Awards.
The couple attend the premiere of their movie “Gigli”, which eventually explodes at the box office.
A few days before the couple’s marriage, they adjourn their marriage and issue the following statement:
“Due to the excessive media attention surrounding our wedding, we have decided to postpone the date. When we found ourselves seriously considering hiring three different ‘decoy brides’ at three different locations, So we realized that something is wrong. The feeling of what should have been the happiest day of our lives can be compromised. We realized that what should have been a joyous and holy day is going to affect us, our families and our lives. Could be bad for our friends.”
The two officially called off their engagement and parted ways.
Another film in which the two starred together, “Jersey Girl” was released and went on to do a tremendous job at the box office.
Lopez is married to friend, singer Marc Anthony, with whom she has twins – a son and a daughter.
A year later, Affleck married actress Jennifer Garner in a private ceremony. Together they produce three children.
“They remain friends and continue to raise their three children amicably,” a source close to the couple told CNN at the time. “He had always planned a divorce but just needed time. As always, his children are his first priority.”
He said he has no regrets about making “Gigli” because “I made a great friendship with Jennifer Lopez, who I think is a wonderful person and I’m very excited for her continued success.”
“I don’t think she always got the respect she deserved, because she was a powerful woman,” he said. “And also because she was a Latina and she was really awesome and no one wanted to admit it. They just kind of wanted to hate, so it’s nice to see that success.”
He issued the following statement.
“We have realized that we are better off as friends and look forward to staying so. We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects. We will continue to support each other and each other. -Wish the best for other’s children. In his honor, we have only one more comment to make, that is to thank everyone who has sent kind words and support.”
