Dolly Parton says ‘thanks, but no thanks’ to a statue of her at the Tennessee capitol
But Dolly said no.
“Given everything that’s happening in the world, I don’t think I have to suit up at the moment.”
A polite country icon
Parton has deep roots in Tennessee.
Where the statue stands in the Confederate monuments
According to the bill, the statue’s design would have been informed by public opinion, and funded by the “Dolly Parton Fund”, which included grants and donations.
It will also stand where the Confederate monuments are.
“I hope, though, that somewhere down the road many years from now, or maybe after I leave, if you still feel that I deserve it, I am sure that I am a great tennesian as our great Will stand proudly in the state capitol. ” Parton wrote.
But in the meantime, she said, she still has work to do.
