The number of students and staff members abducted by the attackers from a boarding facility housing hundreds of school children is still unknown.
A spokesman for the police in Niger did not return CNN’s request for comment Wednesday morning.
Kagra resident Abubakar Mohammed told CNN that the gunmen killed a student.
Mohammed told CNN that around 2 a.m., he stormed the school’s staff quarters, which on Wednesday morning told CNN on the school’s site that an autopsy was being taken out of the student’s hostel by police.

He said community members were on high alert after being warned about the planned attack.
“About yesterday evening, we heard information that the bandit was coming to the brink but we did not know where they would attack. Later at about 10 o’clock, we heard that they were on the outskirts of the ledge, getting nervous, ” They said. .
President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned the kidnapping of children.
“The president has instructed the armed forces and police to ensure the immediate and safe withdrawal of all detainees,” President Spokesperson Garba Shehu said in a statement on Wednesday.
“The president has also sent a team of security chiefs to Minna to coordinate the rescue operation and meet with state officials, community leaders, as well as college parents and staff.”
Nigerian leaders had gone to the state for a week when the incident took place.
