Indian couple under investigation in mid-flight marriage


(CNN) – Indian civil aviation regulators are investigating a video that went viral on social media, showing a couple getting married in mid-flight surrounded by family and friends.

In the video, guests and photographers can be seen crowding around the bride and groom – most were not wearing masks.

India is in the midst of a deadly crisis Second wave of coronavirus infection. In the state of Tamil Nadu, where the Inflight Wedding allegedly took place, temples and meeting halls are closed and there is a maximum attendance limit of 50 people at weddings and other social events.

An official of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation said that SpiceJet was asked to lodge a complaint against the person who violated safety guidelines and the crew was removed.

“We will conduct a detailed investigation and take further action based on the results,” the official said.

A SpiceJet spokesperson said the plane was leased by a travel agent in Madurai for a flight after a wedding on 23 May. He said that the airline is taking action against those who have violated Kovid safety rules.

He said that agents and guests were explained in detail about social distance and safety norms in accordance with COVID guidelines and the rules of the Civil Aviation Authority.

“Despite repeated requests and reminders, passengers did not follow COVID guidelines and the airline is taking appropriate action as per rules,” the spokesperson said.
