Former Sen. John Warner, who represented Virginia in the U.S. Senate for three decades, has passed away, a former staff member told CNN. He was 94.
The former staff member said that Warner died peacefully on Tuesday evening after a heart attack surrounded by Warner’s wife, Jean Warner, and other family members.
Warner served in the US Navy during World War II and in the Marines during the Korean War. He later served as Secretary of the Navy and Republican US Senator from 1979 to 2009.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
