Theroux, who was promoting his new Apple + TV show “The Mosquito Coast”, said it was his friend Jason Bateman who revealed the media’s focus on his relationship with Aniston.
“Yeah, I think some part of me was like, you know, I’m essentially like a character actor and a writer, there’s not a lot of that,” Theroux recalled. “Jason Bateman actually gave me one of the most sage pieces of advice I ever had when it was all going on.”
He continued, “And he said, ‘Look, on that side of the entertainment industry, a character is going to be born and that character is you, but it’s not you. This character is, you know, angry, that character. Got it. One problem, that’s the character, you know, the sweetest. It’s just a little opera that gets written in the margins. “And he said,” And so my advice is, follow that man’s story Do not. ‘ “
Theroux said that he listened and it helped.
“I got stuck doing it,” he said. “And that’s the only way you can make sense and all that.”
Aniston and Theroux first went public with their relationship in 2011 and married in August 2015 in a backyard ceremony in California. They separated in early 2018.
