‘Kevin Can F**k Himself’ First Look: AMC and Annie Murphy Set Out to Shatter the Sitcom Wife

We are in that era of pop culture where the expectations about sitcoms and women are being re-examined. AMCThe new series, “Kevin Can F ** keself”, is all about elevating everything in the traditional sitcom set-up. “Shits Creek” award-winning starring Annie MurphyThe show centers on a housewife named Alison and realizes that the world revolves around her husband Kevin, she does not want to.

The first photos below hint about Allison’s world and the differences between the sitcom landscape and his own point of view. As listener and executive producer Craig DiGregorio exclusively told IndieWire, there was a serious desire to create the landscape of the sitcom universe without directly mimicking anything specific. “There was [desire] Just the format of a multi-camera show has to be right, ”he said.

“We always want to feel that this is the same universe,” he said in relation to Allison’s world and the sitcom. “Allison should never walk from one sitcom scene, or from a multi-camera scene to another.” If he was about to enter the world of “The Fighter”, Rosney is like a comparison. Despite changing the landscape, the synergy will be similar to how the character is. DiGregorio stated that scenes outside the sitcom aspire to be more filmy, especially when they allow for close-ups and wider shots that shorter formats would be inherently prohibitive.

As DiGregorio explained, the series came from producer Valerie Armstrong’s desire to see how often sitcom wives are taken. “If you used to think of them outside the scope of these shows, then we are searching here,” he said. He said this is not a behind-the-scenes look at a satire or an attempt to separate Allison from a sitcom. This alludes to what happens to this character in the moments between watching her sitcom husband.

It is easy to point to examples such as “The Donna Reid Show” or “Skip the Beaver” as evidence of how the sitcom housewife produced an unattainable example, but the goal for DiGregorio and company is to demonstrate That these tropes are nothing. New. “It’s not like these subjects existed 50 years ago and they don’t happen now,” he said. “They only happen today, this week…. Come back to the moon as ‘The Honeymooners’.”

This is definitely a change for Murphy not previously on a traditional sitcom. Being in the world of [‘Schitt’s Creek’] Was a wonderful world, ”said Murphy. “But the world was very small. After ‘Skits Creek,’ a big thing for me was that I was worried about getting stuck in that white, rough ground. “It felt like it was the right thing for him after that series. The added fact that it was created by a woman, mainly with female cast members, left him desperate to sign Murphy.

DiGregorio said that there is an expectation that audiences will see a completely different side to Murphy’s talent. “The thing is that I didn’t realize seeing on ‘Schitt’ Creek how incredible he is for an actor,” he said. “Every emotional moment is perfect for him.” The actress had the challenge of vaccinating between tones, but in taking Allison away from the world of flat sitcoms that could blur her character and actually do something to live and live outside. “I’m just excited for people to see him, many things we haven’t seen him yet,” DiGregorio said.

Kevin Cain F himself“Premieres this summer on AMC.
