At the Rolling Loud music festival in Miami on July 25, DaBaby made false and derogatory comments about gay men and HIV. He also spoke lewd things about women.
DaBaby later defended his comments on Instagram.
“I wasn’t going to go on a rant. It’s called a call to action. It’s called that, because I’m a live performer,” he said. “I’m the best live artist.”
Dua Lipa, who collaborated with the rapper on a remix of her song “Levitating,” said in a statement on her Instagram stories that she was “shocked and horrified by Dabi’s comments.”
At least one celebrity has spoken out in support of DaBaby.
Rapper T.I. said about rapper Lil Nas X being openly gay on Instagram, saying, “If you have a Lil Nas X video and he’s living his truth, you’re definitely gonna have guys like Dabi who don’t know their truth. Will speak.”
The festival tweeted that it was “founded on diversity, inclusivity, respect and love” and that DaBaby’s performance was canceled “with this in mind”.
