Letlow told CBS’s Margaret Brennan on Sunday that she had recently received calls with Biden and former President Donald Trump, who said they were both “very kind and expressed their condolences.” Letlow said that Biden, who has suffered his own tragedies, told him that “he understood the pain I was seeing, and it would get better.”
Before losing her husband, Letlow also lost her 17-year-old brother in a car accident and explored the subject of grief in her doctoral dissertation. He found that “when someone can get out of here in the grieving process and find ways to serve others, it can be really painful and guide them through the grief process”.
“Everything in my life and marriage inspired me for a moment. I am very honored and excited to serve the people of the Fifth District,” said Letlow.
Letlow, the first Republican woman elected to Congress in Louisiana, told Brennan that he would definitely address the issue of paid equity for women.
“When you look at the population, Louisiana’s makeup is about 52% female,” she said. “Every issue is a woman’s issue, and so this is a great opportunity for a woman in Louisiana to have a seat at the table.”
