Lynn Spears petitions court to allow Britney Spears to choose her own lawyer

In a court filing obtained by CNN on Wednesday and July 1, Lynn Spears, through her attorneys, said that her daughter is in a very different place than she was when her guardianship began in 2008.

“Now, and for the past several years, the Conservatti has been able to take care of her person and has, within the standards of this guardianship, earned literally hundreds of millions of dollars as an international celebrity,” the petition said.

The filing was given a week after Britney Spears dramatic testimony in which she pleaded for her nearly 13-year stereotype, which she described as “outrageous” to end. She also said that she wants to have her own lawyer.
On Tuesday, Samuel D. Ingham, Spears’ court-appointed attorney since the establishment of his guardianship in 2008, Petition filed for resignation as his attorney, effective pending the appointment of a new representation for Spears.

The Bessemer Trust, the co-patron of the singer’s $60 million estate, has also filed a petition to resign.

Jamie Spears, the singer’s father, remains the co-patron of her estate, while Jodie Montgomery is her person’s custodian, tasked with managing her day-to-day schedules and health care.

Separately, Montgomery has filed a petition requesting additional security assistance in the weeks following the June 23 hearing, citing threats to his security.

The next hearing for guardianship is scheduled for July 14.
