Tech promises to make your life better. Does it?
In this year’s show, we saw spectacular announcements such as transparent TV and rollable phones. I wanted to test some techniques that promised to improve life, and give them enough time to see if they were worthwhile.
The result was a stream of water that looked significantly smaller than a typical showerhead. But once I placed my head in the basin to wash my hair, I could not feel any physical difference and did not feel that I was using too bad water. The rest of the shampoo and conditioning felt quite standard.
If thousands of salons adopt the L’Oreal Water Saver in their routine over the next two years, the company estimates water savings of up to 1 billion gallons per year, according to L’Oreal hope.
Pricing for the service has not been announced.
“We are also building solutions at home, with the goal of creating sustainable technology anywhere consumers use our haircare products,” said Guiv Baloch, global vice president of L’Oreal Tech Incubator.
Sleep better?
“The human mind is not very good at controlling itself. We know that if you want to fall asleep, you can’t tell yourself, ‘Sleep. It requires more effort,” Cress Said. “We wanted a solution that would really simplify all these processes and not ask the user too much.”
The Cove sends gentle vibrations just behind the ear for a 20-minute session, and is controlled via an app, which is available on the iPhone or Android. The vibration felt really relaxing, as I felt my mind naturally blindfolded.
The first time I tried it, I immediately fell asleep, only to be woken up by a vibration signal that ended my session.
The second time, I decided to lay on my face, so that the end signal could not move against the pillow and my sleep was interrupted. But lying down for fear of waking up meant that I was not able to sleep easily.
Cove promises that the longer you use it, the more effective it will be. This makes it difficult for technical reviewers to see if the cove actually promises insomnia and anxiety. But Cress says its fans are enthusiastic, with some customers telling them they would be willing to pay even more for the cove. For myself, I can see the cove being useful to an extent. But after incorporating it into my nightly routine, I wouldn’t pay much attention to it.
