Denmark goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel was laser-shine as England captain Harry Kane stepped in to collect an extra time penalty.
European football’s governing body said it had initiated disciplinary proceedings and accused England of “the use of the laser pointer by its supporters”.
UEFA said its disciplinary investigation would also look into the “disturbance” caused by supporters of England during the national anthem and the lighting of fireworks by its fans.
Broadcaster ITV, which broadcast the match in the UK, showed footage of a green laser pointing at Schmeichel’s face.
ITV presenter Mark Pougach said, “Whatever they are they are an idiot… it’s stupid and he doesn’t deserve it.” “That’s the kind of thing no one wants to see.”
Following the incident, the English Football Association’s on-site team worked with UEFA to try to find out who had used the laser device.
The Danish Football Association did not immediately respond. CNN Sports Comment request.
The disciplinary matter will be dealt with by the UEFA Controlling, Ethics and Disciplinary Body.
